Unit Membership

We are always looking for new members to join and participate.  Membership is generally open to anyone willing to learn and actively participate.  This is a hobby so participation is encouraged but is seldom mandatory.  Members purchase their own uniforms and equipment, which we wear at public and private events.  Our members come from a wide range of backgrounds, but most are collectors and/or people interested in military history.

Unit activities do not require a great deal of physical exertion, however, members must be able to climb on and off of military vehicles and walk several miles wearing a uniform and field equipment.  Persons under the age of 18 require parental permission.  Members must also occasionally pony up for unit dues to support the unit newsletter, TMHS membership dues and battle fees.

Our unit members come from all over Texas, but most are from the Houston, Austin and Dallas areas.  While we do not wish to discourage membership, you must keep geography in mind.  Texas is a big state and long distance members may not be able to participate at many events.  We also look for members that want to get along and participate equally.  If you are dead set on starting out as Fuhrer with the Knights Cross to the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords and Diamonds, then you might want to consider another unit.

There are expenses with this hobby.  Members are required to have a minimum level of uniform and equipment.  This is not the cheapest hobby out there.  We usually wear the HBT (reed green herringbone twill) German uniform which costs around $300.  We focus on the earlier years of the Wehrmacht and do allow East German boots.  The unit does have some "loaner" equipment so that a potential new comer can participate in an event to try it out and see if the hobby is for him/her (yes, we have a female member).  Do not buy stuff without finding out first if it is allowable. Items can be expensive and we would like members to have the basics first.  It is important to prioritize equipment/uniform purchases to make the most of your $.  We are always on the lookout for equipment-field gear, weapons, almost anything WWII German.
